Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris (Climbing Hydrangea) is a vigorous, deciduous climber with large heart-shaped green leaves and fragrant white lacecap flowers in summer. The blooms have a light, sweet scent that attracts pollinators and adds subtle fragrance to shaded garden areas. It is ideal for covering walls, fences, and shaded vertical surfaces, providing both structure and seasonal interest.
Hardy and low maintenance once established, it thrives in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. It can reach a mature height of around 10–15 metres, making it an excellent long-term choice for large vertical spaces.
