Chaenomeles japonica (Japanese Quince) is a hardy deciduous shrub known for its bright early-spring flowers in shades of red, orange, or pink, often appearing before the leaves. It later produces fragrant, yellow-green fruit in autumn.
Low maintenance and very tough, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates most soils. It typically reaches a mature height of around 1–1.5 metres, making it ideal for hedging, training against walls, or adding early seasonal colour to borders.
