Eucalyptus gunnii - Cider gum

Eucalyptus gunnii, commonly known as the Cider Gum, is one of the most popular eucalyptus trees for UK gardens. Loved for its attractive silvery-blue foliage, smooth peeling bark and rapid growth, this evergreen tree provides year-round colour, structure and fragrance, making it an excellent feature for modern and traditional landscapes alike. Young foliage is rounded and striking blue-grey, gradually maturing into elegant sickle-shaped blue-green leaves as the tree grows. The aromatic foliage releases a fresh eucalyptus scent when crushed and is widely used in floral arrangements. The attractive bark peels naturally to reveal smooth cream, grey and green tones, adding winter interest and architectural appeal. Fast growing, hardy and easy to maintain, Eucalyptus gunnii thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. It is highly tolerant of wind and cold conditions and can be grown as a specimen tree or regularly pruned to maintain its attractive juvenile foliage. Its elegant habit makes it ideal for gardens, screening, parks and contemporary planting schemes.
