Crataegus monogyna - Hawthorn - Bareroot

Crataegus monogyna, commonly known as the Common Hawthorn, is one of Britain's most iconic native trees. Renowned for its beautiful spring blossom, vibrant autumn berries and exceptional wildlife value, it is an excellent choice for gardens, hedgerows, parks and countryside planting. In late spring, the tree becomes covered with masses of fragrant creamy-white flowers, creating a spectacular display that attracts bees, butterflies and a wide variety of pollinating insects. Throughout summer, its glossy green, deeply lobed leaves form a dense canopy before turning rich shades of yellow, orange and bronze in autumn. Bright scarlet-red berries, known as haws, develop in autumn and provide an important food source for birds throughout the winter months. The Common Hawthorn is an extremely hardy and adaptable tree, thriving in almost any well-drained soil, including clay and chalk. It is tolerant of exposed and coastal conditions and can be grown as a specimen tree, within native hedgerows or as part of wildlife planting schemes.
