Acer campestre - Field Maple - Bareroot

Acer campestre, commonly known as the Field Maple, is Britain's only native maple tree. Valued for its attractive foliage, compact habit and excellent adaptability, it is an ideal choice for gardens, parks, hedgerows and countryside planting. Its manageable size and vibrant autumn colour make it a popular ornamental tree as well as an important native species for wildlife. Fresh bright green, five-lobed leaves emerge in spring alongside small clusters of yellow-green flowers that attract bees and other pollinating insects. Throughout summer, the tree forms a dense, rounded canopy before its foliage transforms into brilliant shades of golden yellow, amber and rich orange during autumn. Distinctive winged seeds (known as samaras or "helicopters") develop after flowering and provide additional seasonal interest. The Field Maple is extremely hardy and thrives in a wide range of soils, including clay, chalk and loam. It tolerates pruning exceptionally well, making it suitable for hedging, screening or as a standalone specimen tree. It is also highly tolerant of urban pollution and exposed conditions.
